Recommending the Article to inform Professional Practice
The article is appropriate to inform professional practice because the article recognizes the use of theory, guidelines, and evidence to inform nursing practice, and as a result, facilitate provision of safe and high-quality care. accordingly, it is important for the nurse educators, nurses and researchers to work hand-in-hand to generate evidence-based solutions to challenges present in nursing practice (Hussein & Osuji, 2017). This can be achieved by decreasing the theory-practice gap and assisting students and nurses to apply theoretical knowledge and evidence to practice solutions. Part 4: Research Analysis NURS 6003 Assignment: Academic Success and Professional Development Plan. Theories in nursing also focus on guiding decision making in nursing and curriculum design. Therefore, nursing theories can be applied to design nursing practices as well as learning and teaching activities in nursing (Hussein & Osuji, 2017). Approach to Identifying and Analyzing Peer-Reviewed Research
The first step included consulting the library database. The library database had an option to refine my search and generate scholarly articles. After retrieval of the articles, I looked for an editorial statement as well as author instructions at the end of the journal articles. Some of the articles had instructions to authors or editorial statements that indicated that they were peer-reviewed while others did not have. In addition, the Ulrichs Global Serials Directory was also used; this is a database that provided information regarding published journal articles, including the information if the article has been reviewed. Part 4: Research Analysis NURS 6003 Assignment: Academic Success and Professional Development Plan. The journal article that was retrieved and selected was denoted as “refereed,” indicating that it was peer-reviewed. In addition, the selected article had the credentials of the authors, their academic affiliations were listed, the journal article contains an abstract at the start of the article and also had a reference list of sources used in the journal article. All these steps facilitated the identification of the selected peer-reviewed journal article. Part 4: Research Analysis NURS 6003 Assignment: Academic Success and Professional Development Plan.
Strategies Effective in Finding Peer-Reviewed Research
The first strategy is to select a suitable database and interface, to begin with. According to Bramer et al (2018) vital factors to consider when selecting databases to utilize include the presence and the coverage of a thesaurus. For searchers that are medical-oriented, the recall and coverage of Embase, which consists of the MEDLINE database, are considered better when compared to those of MEDLINE database Part 4: Research Analysis NURS 6003 Assignment: Academic Success and Professional Development Plan. Each specific database contains its specific thesaurus with distinct structure and definitions. Embase thesaurus is relatively complex and hence Emtree, which has more definite thesaurus terms when compared to MEDLINE (MeSH) thesaurus is easier, and hence Embase has been recommended to be used first. MEDLINE and Embase are widely available and the accessibility of the searcher determines the primary database and the interface as well (Bramer et al, 2018).
The second step includes selected an advanced search screen. Part 4: Research Analysis NURS 6003 Assignment: Academic Success and Professional Development Plan The use of an advanced search screen enables the researcher to refine the search by choosing a search field for each term that is entered. The fields that can be searched consist of the subject term, title, author, along with the name of the journal. It is important to limit the search in order to ensure that only articles with full-texts are retrieved. The search can also be limited to peer-reviewed journals and data of publication. After retrieving and selecting the journal article, it is important to conduct a critical appraisal in order to ensure the quality of the article (Bramer et al, 2018).
One Resource to Use to Find Peer-Reviewed Research
One resource I would use to locate peer-reviewed research is Ulrich Web. Ulrich Web is a database of journals and can be used to identify journals in specific subject, confirm if the journal is peer-reviewed as well as confirm the database the journal is indexed or the availability of the journal article in full-text form. Ulrich Web provides bibliographic and publisher information of all kinds of periodicals, scholarly and academic journals and it addresses over 900 subject fields (Cooper et al, 2018). Any journal article that is peer-reviewed is denoted as “refereed,” in the Ulrich Web. Part 4: Research Analysis NURS 6003 Assignment: Academic Success and Professional Development Plan
