Finally, sugared beverages are simply a risk factor for obesity and weight gain, and not a definite cause. That is because sugared drinks must interact with other factors that include the environment and genetics to cause obesity (Hamric et al., 2014; Mason et al., 2016). As a result, it is not right to use the pretext of improving obesity management as justification for taxing sugared beverages.

Getting buy-in for the proposed policy would first entail seeking aid from the nine groups of stakeholders who influence legislation.
